I'm getting this message a lot, even on the PC Guide...

running puppy 4.3.1 and seamonkey.

error like this:

http://kb.mozillazine.org/SSL_is_disabled

might be related to trying a FF install, which that browser has trouble - can't set home page or open the prefs locks the app...

virus?

1. Perhaps the same cause as in this thread?
firefox error SSL disabled (http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?t=59526&sid=f66ecb28a6791e4ef3ac49c890495397)

2. I doubt its a virus; I've never seen a confirmed report of ANY Puppy EVER having been infected or hacked.
But you could always use a 2nd Puppy [with anti-virus installed] to scan [the pupsave of] your 1st Puppy [4.3.1].
That will be a waste of time I'm sure.

3. You might use Pfind to see if SSL is included in your Puppy filesystem.
Here in Wary-500, I have Firefox [but not Seamonkey] installed, and...
I have libssl3.so in both the Firefox and Seamonkey folders...
And various other versions of libssl included in the usr/lib folder.
See this. (http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?p=398197#398197)
And...
Wonderful what a little searching HERE can do. (http://wellminded.com/puppy/pupsearch.html) :)

4. Have you checked "Menu->Setup->Check Dependencies" for Seamonkey?
No missing dependencies?

By the way...

Wary-500 is the snappiest/fastest Puppy I've brought into use recently.
Typing this from within it by choice.

LighthousePup-5.02-G is big and colourful and technically capable.

Lupu-520 has nice new features [e.g. Quickpet], and works really well.

Boxpup-431 [older Puppy built upon 431] is FAST, minimalist, elegant, stylish, with nice features.
Hard to beat, but the others above have probably managed it.

Why stick with 431?

I figure:
If something doesn't work...
A Puppy or some program within it...
Just use a different Puppy or program that DOES work.
I have 6 Puppies in use.
And I use Firefox in preference to Seamonkey.

Me too Firefox in preference to Seamonkey.

yeah, SM seems buggy. Usually I can just close the browser and restart and the problem goes away.

The newer puppies present an issue with my widescreen display, which is why I'm still on 431, on this machine anyway...
