I am finishing up last touches to an Inspiron 8500 that I managed to get working. Before giving this to a student, I do have one question about a 1394 adapter which shows up in connections and in the taskbar. It always indicates connected.?? Have no idea what it thinks it is connected to though. There is a wireless connection and an ethernet which work fine. Can I disable or delete this connection and get rid of an excess icon?

1394 is a FireWire connection; it may be useful to someone with a camera that requires that type of cable, so I would just leave it enabled. It does not take resources, but I am surprised it shows connected.

If its showing as connected you may have a faulty 1394 port (unless you have something plugged in to your firewire port)
If you don't have any firewire/IEEE1394 devices then you can just disable it if its bothering you though
