Is there a way to network a laptop and a tower together using usb cable.
If not, is there another inexpensive way to do this.
There is no ethernet card in the laptop. Trying to keep costs down.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Darlene

Welcome! and to answer your question..YES! http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/smile.gif
You can use a usb cable from Buslink that is specifically made for file transfer( about $30.00 i believe, lookhere (http://www.buslink.com/usbusb.htm)) or you can use W98's built in networking capabilities.
If you are using W98 or ME on either system look for a program in your Start/programs/accessories/communications folder called direct cable connection, you can use this ( and the two parallel ports on your systems ) to hook them up and transfer data.
you'll need a male/male connector parallel cable-and about 30 minutes to set it up. here's a link to help explain how this works;
direct cable connection (http://www.smartcomputing.com/editorial/article.asp?article=articles%2Farchive%2Fl0708%2F4 0l08%2F40l08%2Easp&guid=qnywfqp4&searchtype=0&WordList=direct+cable+connection)
I've used it several times, and if you make sure that in your BIOS your Parallel ports are set to ECP ( Enhanced Capabilities Port ) you'll see transfer speeds as fast as any usb transfer.
