I have a small network at my house consisting of two computers on a 4 port hub. one is running win2k pro and the other is running winme. I have the network set up fine for sharing files. both computers "see" each other in their network neighborhoods and can access files from each other. The trouble is, I have my HP Laserjet printer connected to my win2k box and installed as the local printer. I want to install this same printer on my winme box as a network printer.

When I use the add printer function on the me box and try to browse for the printer it isnt there. I have set it to be shared, and named it. The trouble is I cannot find it when I attempt to install it as the network printer on my winme box. I used to have this printer shared in this manner before when both boxes were winme. I decided to upgrade one of them to win2k, and now I am not able to share my printer.

I went to the users thing in control panel and added a user. I then logged in as that user on the me box, but I still cannot add the printer in the add printer menu. What else do I need to do? I would prefer some step by step directions if possible since I am new to this OS.

Please help me.

Thank you

Try this...

From the ME computer open the Windows 2000 computer in network 'hood. You should see a listing of all folders and printers being shared. Is the printer you want listed?

If it is right click it and choose "connect" from the context menu. (I belive the option is "connect". I'm not at my ME box right now.)

If it isn't displayed. Then reinstall the printer at the Win2K computer (but first uninstall it and reboot). During the install process you should get the option to share it and to install drivers for other operating systems. Choose yes to both and it should then be ready for use.

Hope this helps http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/smile.gif
