I am wanting to flash the bios (make it a more upto date bios) on an old
"PC Chips - M559" motherboard running a Cyrix 233MHz and 32MB mem.
1: What files do I need (I have found the BIOS update file at PC Chips home site, 1 (one file only) Do I also need a FLASH file as well?

2: Could some one give me detailed instructions on how to do this once I have the actual files?

I have never done this before and would like to add it to my limited experience. [Who says that you have to be sane :-)]

It depends on the BIOS and mobo...sometimes you need an update file and a flash utility...sometimes the update is built into the flash program...

Since the process can vary from board to board, I STRONGLY encourage you to find instructions for your specific mobo, they should be on the manufacturer's website. Print them out and read them thoroughly before you start...

And unless there is some specific reason for updating the BIOS (like it will support faster cpus or it fixes some issue like power management) I don't know that I would bother...you can kinda hose your system...

When all else fails, read the instructions.

2nd the motion of 'NOT' doing this unless it is necessary!

Read the information. If you have problems understanding the information, read it again. Repeat until enlightenment is achieved.

Then again...might as well practice on an old PC Chips. http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/smile.gif But yeah, do find the appropriate instructions. I've successfully flashed motherboards, video cards, IDE-RAID controllers, and a CD-R unit but it's a "roll of the dice" each time.

If you are expecting the result of this bios "flashing" to noticeably improve performance, you will probably be disappointed....esp. if you are running anything other than Win95-B.

Thanks guys
PC Chips site ( http://203.161.230.38/newbios2.html)has 2 (two) seperate files
1: Bios upgrade specific to board. (0404s-13)
2: Flash BIOS seperate file (AMI Flash Rom 327)

The little instructions they supply (about 5 lines long)
Mentions 2 files and was wondering if this was the correct 2 in particular the flash rom file.

Processor on this board is cyrix233 but only running at 187.
Running Win98 with some probs and would like to try BIOS upgrade to see if it sorts nout and also for the experience. http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/biggrin.gif
