I have win 2k Pro installed on my comp. When I installed
My agp ati graphics card I forced the install of the wrong
driver. Dumb mistake. However when I restart the blue
screen of death comes up and says cannot load :

/systemroot/system32/drivers/ati2mpaa.sys

I believe all I need to do is to stop the startup from trying to
load the incorrect ATI driver. However I don't know how. All I want to do now is to take out the
ATI card and use the onboard Video.

Hit f8 when win2k tells you to . Then go to start/settings/controlpanel and device manager and remove the video card in the device manager,to remove right click or double click the video card or video cards and then shut down and take the card out and hook it back to the onboard video.Windows should see your onboard and install a windows driver for it.

I tried that but it dosent even make it to windows, it says :
Starting windows and the indicator bar goes across and then it goes to the next Starting windows 2000 screen w/ the indicator and after its done the blue screen comes up and says:

Stop: c000026c {unable to load device driver}
\systemroot\system32\drivers\ati2mpaa.sys driver could not be loaded
Error status was 0xc000012f

...No clue

You need to hit the "F8" key when the boot menu is displayed. You'll then get several options. The two you could use are "safe mode" or "last known configuration".

"Last known...." will bootup the system to the state it was in the last time you logged into Win2k.

"Safe mode" works as it does in 98.

In either case once your in the GUI just follow diurnal's instructions.

EDIT another option.... you should be able to just pull the card. On bootup Win2k will use and install whatever VGA "card" the POST has detected.

Good luck http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/smile.gif

the onboard video works fine, however it still starts up and wont let me get into windows. It just stops with that error. How do I access the file that tells the computer what files to load when it boots up? If I can make it not tell itself to load that driver than I should be all set.

First have you tried "safe mode" or the "ENABLE VGA" mode. The VGA mode loads default windows VGA drivers. The blue screen should never come up till after you have made your Boot menu selection. This is your best bet for making the change you need

Do you have the system setup to display the boot menu ? Also are you using a dual monitor setup?

If the system is using an INI file (proably not) to load the driver it should be in the error message. Otherwise its loading from the registry. In an NT system the registry can't be edited from the command prompt. If nothing else works you will have to either restore a backup or reinstall. http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/frown.gif
