Network Windows 2000 to Windows ME machine?

Hi! I had two Windows ME machines successfully networked using Share-level access control. Then I reformated one of them with Windows 2000. Now, depending on what protocol I use, the 2000 machine either doesn't show up in the ME machine or it shows up and says that I don't have permission to go into the 2000 machine.

I know alot about ME networking, but nothing about 2000. I don't care about security. What are the best protocols, settings, and permissions for networking a Windows 2000 machine and a Windows ME machine?
