View Full Version : Windows 7 Bookmarks

I just purchased a new laptop running windows 7. I saved my Firefox bookmarks in an html file. When I try to recover them using import and backup, I am unable to locate the file. It is there but does not show up when Firefox looks for it. Is the file hidden from a program like Firefox? If so, how do I make it available to upload? Thanks, G

Which version of Firefox were you running on the other machine? If it was 3.5 or below, I would recommend you look at this page (http://kb.mozillazine.org/Backing_up_and_restoring_bookmarks_-_Firefox) and scroll down to the bottom where it says EXPORT HTML.
If you still have your old machine handy, I would recommend saving a backup of the settings using MozBackup (http://mozbackup.jasnapaka.com/). You could then install this on your new laptop and use it to import the settings. I use this all the time on my PCs, and I think it's a really good little freeware utility.

Well, the old machine was really acting up so I have already formatted the drive and reinstalled XP. I was able to restore the bookmarks on that machine quite easily so now I can try mozbackup on that machine. Other than that, I have to find out how to expose (unhide) the file which is in plain view to me but not to Windows 7 (home premium). Thanks for the reply Lochlomander

Follow up. Mozbackup is the ticket! Thanks again, Lochlomander!

I'm glad it worked for you, and it's definitely a good little utility to have around whenever you want to backup browser settings :)
