Would you believe someone may have obtained 77 million identities, I mean everything.
What did they get?

Here is the data that Sony is sure has been compromised if you have a PlayStation Network Account:

* Your name
* Your address (city, state, and zip)
* Country
* E-mail address
* Birthday
* PSN password and login name

"It is also possible that your profile data, including purchase history and billing address (city, state, zip), and your PlayStation Network/Qriocity password security answers may have been obtained. If you have authorized a sub-account for your dependent, the same data with respect to your dependent may have been obtained," Sony announced. While the company claims that there is "no evidence" that credit card information has been compromised, it won't rule out the possibility.

I heard that all this stuff was stored in a text file, but my sources were from irc.freenode.net so it may not be all reliable... but still, imagine storing millions of people's sensitive data in TEXT files!

There is some speculation (treat that with caution) that a systems admin PC was hacked, possibly via an infected email or other file.
This was a complete compromise situation, whoever got control of that PC had full admin rights at that stage.
SONY was getting almost $500 million per year revenue from the site until they had to shut it down.

Yeah the latest release said that your personal information like your CC# was safe and that only your gaming information was hacked..but on the other hand many people had their person information in those text files. I just think it is silly to think that even a huge avenue like the Sony Marketplace would not be a perfect thing to hack...hackers will get into ANYTHING if they see a profitable turn around in it.

There was a second Sony site compromised a day earlier where they know CC numbers were taken primarily from customers in EU and Asia.
