I have a new Packard Bell 2800 Laptop, how do I connect it
to my PC, which has a RJ45 lan socket.
Can I copy programs and files through this cable, such as
Win Me to my PC Win98 ?.
Does your PC have a NIC (network card)?
If it does then you are in business...of course you'll need the cable and the proper software to setup the network (which your OS may include), so post back with info on what OS each machine is running andsome specs on your machines and I'm sure someone can help you set up a basic network.

or if you find this too difficult then get yourself a male/male parallel cable and hook your systems up through the paralllel ports running Direct Cable Connection. This works for all flavors of the W95 family ( osr2 and up ) and W2000. Go here ( Direct Cable Connection explained (http://www.smartcomputing.com/editorial/article.asp?article=articles%2Farchive%2Fl0708%2F4 0l08%2F40l08%2Easp&guid=qnywfqp4&searchtype=0&WordList=direct+cable+connection) ) for a helpful guide.
Just make sure you enable ECP ( Enhanced Capabilities Port ) in your BIOS for the parallel port to get the best transfer rates.

I found that my IBM ThinkPad running Windows ME would not accept Laplink. After trying various other options I now simply use email for transferring files between my laptop and desktop PC (running 98SE). Works a treat! However, transferring programs may be a different story.
