I am running ME and have TweakUI installed (the latest version) and cannot for the life of me figure out how to disable the splash screen. Sandra 2001 says to open up TweakUI and go to the "boot" folder which i do not have and disable it there. That worked on 95 and 98, the version installed is different or something. How does one go about doing it manually. In 95 you can edit ms-dos.sys but not in ME. Thanks.

I use ME (although I'm planning on switching back to Win98SE next weekend), and I changed the "BootGUI=1" to "BootGUI=0" in my MSDOS.SYS and I don't see any splash screens. I get the text message "Windows Millennium is Starting Up", and then the next thing is see is my desktop. Here's my MSDOS.SYS file:

[Paths]
WinDir=C:\WINDOWS
WinBootDir=C:\WINDOWS
HostWinBootDrv=C
UninstallDir=C:\

[Options]
BootMulti=1
BootGUI=0
AutoScan=1
WinVer=4.10.2222

You have to unhide it ("attrib -s -h -r msdos.sys") of course, before you can change it. Regards,

Actually, I rescind my previous comment. You're right, changing MSDOS.SYS doesn't make a bit of difference one way or the other (I just switched it back and forth to check). IIRC, what one has to do is actually delete the JPG file(s) that contain the splash screen graphics. I remember getting the pertinent info on which files were used from an old edition of PC Mag that I xeroxed back when I was subscribing to it (before it became all advertising and no articles), but unfortunately I do not have the clipping at my fingertips. Sorry,
