when I send an e-mail, my signature ie. e-mail address and url of my website are both active as links.

but when I reply to e-mails sometimes the web address is active sometimes it isn't.

the e-mail address is always active.

anyone any ideas?

so far I've sussed out that the Outlook e-mail editor converts the reply format to that of the sender if it's in plain text only, but mine is set as plain text only, so I can't see what the difference is. I've also tried the other settings (Rich text & HTML) but makes no difference.

I don't want to use 'word' as my e-mail editor, so any ideas?

Hey Vic,
Looks like you stumped a few of us. I had no answer the first time I read this so I did not http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/rolleyes.gif
The only thing I can think of is, it depends on what the recipients mail service is. I use AOL and most times when I receive mail, typed in links do not work. I have to copy and paste or just type it in myself.
good luck

certainly looks that way, as I've gone through all my old mail, and it happens (or not) on all the same addresses. But I can't see why it should, because..,
when I send a new e-mail it defaults to all my chosen fonts etc. and when I reply to an e-mail: more often it again defaults to my chosen fonts. occasionally it reverts to plain text (depending on the sender) .

The outlook help site says that this is done by the outlook e-mail editor because the sender is using plain text, but so am I, (& this is where I chose my fonts,) & I would imagine so are most of the others.
and its not that it can't do it, as I can change the text (manually) in the reply to my chosen fonts etc. & make the links active.

Outlook is set to 'Always use these settings for e-mail, replies & forwards.

Doesn't make a lot of sense!

I am sure that AOL is a wonderful ISP, but they got on my doo-doo list long ago when I was learning to email pics (and quite proud of learning about editing and such) because the two people that I knew with AOL couldn't receive ANY of my pics. Tried attaching and inserting and even sending pics through Hotmail...no pics, no joy. When I make my Xmas or holiday e-cards, I have to leave my AOL friends off the mailing list. http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/frown.gif

just had a look through some of my mail again.

AOL is one of the culprits, virgin is another. funny though I've had 2 e-mails from a friend who has recently aquired PC and feeling his way around, both were within a couple of days, reply to one is ok but not the other. he is using lineone. both e-mails & senders address the same & I'm SURE that he wouldn't have altered any settings either.

here's a twist,

I sent an e-mail to 'Dennis' who replied to me, I then replied to him (with my signature (chosen fonts etc.) by default)

He later e-mailed me, & when I replied, it defaulted to plain text.

Could it be that HIS e-mail editor defaulted to MY chosen format, then MY e-mail editor defaulted to HIS reply, (or to MY original)?

Then 2nd occasion MY e-mail editor defaulted to HIS original (which was (presumably) in plain text)?

I'm sure I didn't have this problem with 97!

Gee, vic, now you've got me wondering...I guess I'm going to have to start watching my emails a little more closely...but it sure smells like an "improvement" to me...

Oh, yeah, my sister is on AOL and I can't send here pics, or hyperlinks...

May i suggest that instead of using the full version of Outlook; you use the default Outlook express-it is strictly an email app, and generally has fewer bugs than it'a bigger brother.

I have also noticed that anyone with Netscape mail, or Endura, or even Operamail has problems getting some parts of my message when i use Outlook, but when i use Express-no problems.

Such a wonderful expensive addition to MS office, when it works right. http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/tongue.gif

Oh yeah, meant to tell you that if you don't want word as your editor; then open " internet properties ", goto the programs tab, and under the HTML editor box use the scroll down list to choose notepad. http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/biggrin.gif
