View Full Version : Trouble renewing IP

My IP address started with a 169 and I kept getting booted off the net. I released and renewed my IP (now starts with a 68) but I keep getting booted from the net.

I know next to nothing about networking so any help would be appreciated. I really don't feel calling comcast only to find out it's my problem, not theirs.

It's either your card or your router. What OS are you running....

I don't even have a router. I'm connected directly to the modem I got from comcast. And I'm running XP.

Try a complete power cycle of the modem. Power off the modem by pulling the adapter. Turn on the modem, wait for the lights to almost all light, then boot the PC.

Also make sure all your connections are snug.

This is such good standard advice whenever there is a networking problem that it bears repeating. In short reboot all networking hardware and PC(s) and see if the problem has been resolved.
