Is there any way to rename a large number of files in a directory in a serial fashion without renaming each file one at a time? They are all the same type of file (wavs) and what I'd like to do is rename them in the form "AB1.wav, AB2.wav, AB3.wav" etc, while retaining the current name order.

Check SimTel (http://www.simtel.net/) they should have something that will do it. Some of the other download sites might also have something, Freeware Home (http://www.freewarehome.com/) usually has a good selection too.

Thanks Pete, Simtel seems to have several likely candidates. BTW, I thought I new all the shareware sites, but I'd never heard of Simtel & it looks terrific, great tip!

I like PC Magazine's MultiRen (http://www.zdnet.com/pcmag/pctech/content/17/11/ut1711.001.html).
