I tried to install a new mouse on a friends p.c , all was well untill I tried to browse the web. As soon as I connected the p.c crashed every time.
When I checked the installation instructions it said I should remove the drivers from the previous mouse,I went into device manager and removed the old mouse and rconnected the new one but, it still did`nt work on the net.I can`t find the drivers for the old mouse anywhere.
The system is running win95 and the new mouse is a Trust scroll.
Thank`s.

You should have gotten a CD when you purchesed the mouse any new one i've bought has one. if it did not come with one contact the vender where you got it and inform him.I don't see any reason for the sys. to crash? sure you only delited the mouse driver?? It's do you have the origonal CD for the sys or hard disk. or try in a different port if you have .post back with options??? we'll go from there.

Thanks for the reply,
yes I did get an installation cd, and I loaded it ok. What I should have done was to remove the old mouse and drivers before I added the new hardware as directed in the instructions. I have a floppy disc for the old mouse that has instructions for removing it`s driver,(ex<mouse off) it looks like it is in ms dos. I need to find the drivers in the windows reg but can`t.
Cheers.

Try going into safe mode and seeing if there are any " ghost " mice listed. Easiest thing to do would be to delete all instances of the mice ( while in safe mode ) then reboot and reinstall the drivers for the new mouse.

Start\Settings\Control Panel\System. Click Device Manager tab, then click the + beside Mouse. Remove any and all mice listed, in Safe Mode, reboot and it should be automatically reinstalled.

Also you might need to check resources. An IRQ conflict is not out of the question. Mouse and modem trying to use the same IRQ, system doesn't like it...while in normal running mode, not Safe Mode, go to the same place, Device Manager, highlight Computer and click Properties That will show an IRQ listing. If any are conflicting, that will also show as a yellow !. It should also work in Safe Mode, but you want to check it under normal running conditions, that's where the problem is happening.

If the mouse shows a conflict, usually removing it as described above will let Windows reinstall it and give it an open IRQ. Serial mice use COM1, which is IRQ 4, PS/2 mice normally use IRQ 12. Let us know what happens, removing it in Safe Mode should do the trick, as iisbob suggested.

Thanks for the help Folks.
I ununstalled all traces of a mouse in safe mode and, the new mouse installed straight away in normal and works fine.
Cheers.
