HP DV 5000 won't reconize DVD-RW drive

My laptop has all of sudden decided that the DVD-RW drive is only a CD-ROM drive. I can't find any drivers for it on the internet and system restore won't work. I've also tried uninstalling it and reinstalling it. Any suggestions?

Will it Read Dvd's?

Turn the system off pull the dvd/cd unit out turn the comp. back on, then turn it off and reinstall the dvd.cd unit and let windows reinstall the drivers for it then see if it is recognised..

No it won't read DVDs.

HOw do I get the DVD drive out? I took out the 3 screws closest to it but that didn't help.
