The motherboard on my Emachine has died. I've bought a new Dell computer to replace it. The problem is that I need to copy (recover) several data files from the hard drive in the Emachine. I can not remove the old hard drive from the Emachine and install it into the new Dell computer as a slave without voiding the warrenty on the new Dell. Can I transfer the data via the network card in the Dell? How do you transfer data from a hard drive that is in a none working computer or out of it. Thanks for your help. Don

Welcome don http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/smile.gif

I have a Dell under my care with the top of the line warranty...that being said...I contacted them about voiding the warranty by entering the case to clean and add RAM...the response I got from them was that unless I physically damaged the computer that it would not void the warranty with the only drawback being that I would have to remove any hardware that was not original to the system before I could send it in for repair.

If you still feel that you don't want to slave the old drive in your system, my suggestion is to find another system (a friend's or another old one) with a CDRW and go that route or network those computers.
