how to VCD it??

what do i have to do to get a video file (.avi) on my hard drive to play on my vcd player?? do i need to convert it to a specific format or...???

A question - Is that a stand alone VCD player (which are pretty rare in North America) or software installed on your comp?

i was hoping to play it using both my stand alone vcd player and through my dvd player connected to my tv....
