Hello All,

I wanted to inquire of all those PC gurus out there if you guys could possibly help me out with a problem. My system was recently infected by the W32.nasm virus and it corrupted most of my icons. In place of program icons, the Windows default icon is presented. While I was able to disinfect my system, I have not been able to restore the proper icons. I was wondering if anyone out there had any suggestions or if they could possibly help. Thanks for you time.

What version of windows are you running?

You may have to clears your icon cache...in Win9x it is located inthe Windows directory and it can only be cleared from DOS, which means you need to boot up and hit the <f8> key right after the post screen, it will bring up the boot menu, select the command prompt option, when you get a C:\ prompt you need to type in del_c:\windows\shelliconcache (with a space instead of the underscore). Reboot and Windows will rebuild the cache, hopefully with the proper icons....

Thanks MJC for replying.

I had a question. I tried the suggested procedure, but the system said it could not find the shelliconcache file. Did I perhaps enter something wrong? In reply to your question, I am running an OEM version of Windows 98. Again, thanks for your help and if you have any suggestions, they are and will always be, much appreciated. http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/smile.gif http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/smile.gif
