What does it mean when a desktop icon takes on this look? http://jes.sasktelwebsite.net/Capture.PNG

The icon still works as always, it has just taken on a new look for some reason since I formed my home network.

It looks as if it's "forgotten" the particular icon you had associated with this shortcut.

If you right-click on the icon, choose Properties, and then click on Change Icon, you should be able to change it back to what it was originally.

Hmmm. I change the icon and that thing follows it. http://jes.sasktelwebsite.net/Capture%202.PNG

There may be more to it. With a friends help I have setup a domain in my home in order to learn how to operate it. This phenomenon is occurring in all of my user accounts including the domain admin. I should probably mention it to Brent. Thanks for your advise.

What version of Windows?

That looks more like a corrupted icon cache than anything else, especially if it is 'spreading'...

Windows 7 with Windows Server 2008 as the DC. This is probably due to the redirected folders. I assume that the icon cache would be considered application data and I know that the redirected folders are not passing that. I will talk to Brent.

That didn't work out the way that I hoped it would. Brent doesn't know. He says that it happens to him but as long as it works he doesn't care what it looks like. I like my pretty icons, though.

I know that when this happens on a local computer I can just boot into safe mode and then back to the user account. This rebuilds the icon cache, as I understand, and all it well. So I tried doing just that. Since my redirected folders are on the server, I booted the server into safe mode and then back to the domain account with no effect.

Does anyone have any ideas?
