I was trying to learn how to install a new harddrive
by setting it to slave, and connecting to the slave
port on the cable. When i tried to boot the computer
i got a parity error???? The "new" drive isn't actually
new and does have data on it, but I hadn't tried to copy
data over yet, the error was when I powered up the
computer.

the error "parity error" is a memory error.
During the install of the hard drive you have bumped the memory sticks in your system.
You should shut down the system and unplug it from the outlet.
Then push the power button on the front of the case . ( Safeguard ) Some new M/B's will store power even after being shut down and unpluged.

Then Reseat your Memory sticks.

Plug it in again aand see if the error is gone.
