Hooking up a Dreamcast, PS2 game consoles to PC

I was in a pc store that had a Dreamcast hooked up to a PC. It appeared to me that they was using the monitor for a screen to play the game. I would like to know what I need and what to do so I can do the same. it's appealing to me because TV's are usually taken and would like an alternative to play some games without using a TV.
