Windows 7 home "premium" 64 bit. I have all the WE folders set to "details" (when the bloody OS doesn't change them back to "Large Icons"). Since I use "details", I don't need, and find annoying, that little window which pops up giving the DETAILS when you mouse over a file or folder name. It obscures surrounding folders/files. I looked in folder options, doesn't appear to be a way to turn this off. How can I eliminate these popups?

These tooltips are nothing to do with the type of view but can be disabled in Explorer via the Registry (http://www.bltt.org/quicktips/totw_disabletooltips.htm). You may need full admin privileges in Win7 or turn off UAC temporarily.

HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Exp lorer\Advanced

Value of 0 is off and 1 is on.

Thanks Paul. Yeah I know they're not specific to detail view, it just seems odd they have them in that view as well, since that info is available, or can be. I just find they block my ability to see the directory in context.

Boy, am I stupid  I looked in these settings, and completely missed this:

This is for Vista, but it works for 7, too.
Much better ;)

Nice one and very straightforward.
