A while back, a thread was posted as to how to remove the little window
that pops up on startup asking fo a user name and password.
For some reason, (just started) when i click on the OK to signify "default
user" my PC hangs and I cannot get a desktop to load. However if I click
on cancel it will somtimes load my desktop, and somtimes hang.

Try deleting your .pwl file as it might have corrupted. a new one will be generated next time you re.boot.
To read the old posts try these;

if you need some more click on search (above right) and type in '.pwl' without the quotes.

for every question there's an answer. Then a load more questions.

you can do as vic said and just cancel the the pop up asking for a password
another thing you might try is goto start-> settings->control panel
->passwords. click on change user password and don't type in a new password also goto the user profiles tab and tick all users of this computer use the same preferences and desktop settings
question is it wanting you to log on to the network or log on to windows and what flavor of windoz are you using?
if it is asking for a network password goto start->settings->control panel
->network. change the logon from microsoft network logon to windows logon

I am going to delete it from C:\WINDOWS\DEFAULT.PWL in DOS mode.
