View Full Version : Windows 7 vs IDE?!

Hey guys and ladies,
i am editing my old computer and updating my os to a more modern operating system but have so much damn trouble to get Windows 7 to install with an IDE hdd and i have no idea why... its fresh install and i get an error message "setup was unable to create a new system partition or locate an exciting system partition. See the setup log files for more information" any help please?:confused:

First question...what are the specs on this machine...other than it has an IDE hard drive?

2gigs ddr2
msi motherboard
not sure i didn't build this system :)

How big is the hard drive and do any existing partitions show up during the installation? If so try deleting all of them - either before you begin or during setup using the advanced option when the partitioning is displayed..

I agree w/Paul. Even with a freshly-formatted HDD, I've seen Win7 complain at the installation process and not progress. Better to delete all partitions and then it'll progress properly.

40gigs and it was cleaned and formatted STILL no hope :/

Don't try to install it on the formatted drive. When you're given the option of choosing where to install Windows, delete the partition first on the formatted disk and then choose it for installation.
