Hi, I am having trouble with my IE browser (ie8) closing down intrermitently.
It`s random and dosnt seem to matter if it`s idle or not. I did a AVG scan but that reported no problems, also Spybot. Would it be best to reset IE, bearing in mind I would probably lose all my settings.
Thank`s. Tom.

tomi,
If it's closing down, it might shed some light on what's going wrong if you can access the Event Viewer log. To do so, click on the Start button and where it says Search programs and files, type in eventvwr.msc and hit the Enter key.
On the left-hand side of the screen you'll see a folder entitled Applications and Services logs. Double-click on this to expand it, and then you'll see an entry for Internet Explorer. Click on this and then it should show the log entries in the middle of the screen pertaining to IE. Have a look there, since there will be Error messages pertaining to IE failing. Perhaps you can copy and paste them to this thread to give an idea what's going awry.
I understand you may be concerned about losing your IE settings; therefore, I would recommend this little freeware program called BackRex (http://backsettings.com/internet-explorer-backup.html), which can save your settings. The download link is near the bottom of the page.

Thank`s for the help Loch Lomonder. I think I have discovered the culprit.
When I followed your instructions the ie log page had no info whatsoever.
I realised my av scanner was set to random delete this data, but for some reason the settings had changed to close browser before scan starts. It`s been ok since.
Thank`s. Tom.
