I would like to install a new xp on a new formatted hd and boot from that hd
my current set up is as follows
Drive C partitioned into C and E
C-has a windows that the tech installed when repairing my PC.I currently boot from C.
E-contains the original XP that the tech removed from C
I would like to remove the windows in both C and E.

If you are clean installing from a Windows setup CD then you should get to a stage when you will be asked where you want to install to. You can then delete all existing partitions and choose the unallocated space, etc, etc. Just follow the prompts and when asked about formatting I always use the quick NTFS option to save time. This avoids doing a full media scan but this can be done later at your leisure by running chkdsk /r from a command prompt in Windows.

A 'clean' install will wipe everything currently on the drive. If you want to save anything that is there you need to transfer it to another location before you start and then transfer it back after you have completed the install.
