Hello SpaceAce and welcome.
Your peripherials should be connected to a computer on the network. This computer will need to have "File and Print Sharing" installed in the Network Properties. You would then make sure that device is "Shared" in it's properties.
The TCP/IP protocal is something you should not need to deal with once installed and working.
Hope this helps.

Another very good option for installing the printing devices you listed is to install a print server.
Many printers ( High end ) allow adding the print server into the printer itself.
Then it’s just a matter of installing the administrator software onto the admin system and setting the device properties ( Who gets access and How much)
This is a great way to move loud units into an area that will not disturb other people and in the case of your large plotter allow you to get it out of your way.
Using little more than a cat5 cable to connect it to the Lan.
Not Many If any scanners will allow you to share across a network.

To REALLY screw things UP, YOU NEED a COMPUTER !

The HP Jetdirect print server is easy to install and cost lest than $200. (It will work with most all printers.) We have an Office Jet R80 ( a fax/printer/scanner) connected to our network via a Jetdirect and we can share the printer and scanner. (the scanner is accessed via a web page) You might want to take a look at some of the HP products to find one that fits your budget and needs.
