I am about to install a new hard drive and would like to know if I can tansfer all the data from my old drive without doing a re-install. My old drive has 3 partitions and I would like to know how I transfer all the data from the 3 partitions to the new drive.

Welcome to pc guide....

Ease over to the website of your new HDD Mfg. and browse around. You should find the program you need.

Luck.

You can use Power Quest Drive Image or Norton Ghost to copy your old drive to your new one. I haven't used Norton Ghost so I don't know much about it.
Drive image will copy your whole drive or each partition.

As Ranchdog suggested go to the vendors site and either download their drive imageing utilities or with the drive youpruchsed it should have come with them; ie..Maxblast for maxtor as an example.

These allow you to completely back up any old data, they work on the same principal as Ghost or Drive image, and are free to boot. http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/biggrin.gif

I have a FUJITSU HDD but they do not make or provide such a utility. Would MAXBLST work for any make of HDD?

Norton ghost will perform this task for you quite efficiently. Maxtor maxblast was very disappointing. Tried to set up my Maxtor HDD with it, but it was quite useless, and not user friendly at all. Your best bet would be to install 2nd HDD as a slave,FDISK it into 3 partitions like current one, and dump exact copies of your current partitions, starting with the C{boot} partition of course:cool: Then swapt master and primary jumpers. Make sure auto detect and LBA modes are enabled as well.
A word of caution thou: Norton Ghost is extremely powerful software, but also very unforgiving! You need to know what you are doing, and with 6 partitions total, it will be challenging. If you accidently perform a dump{copying a partition}into the same partion, it will wipe it clean. I set mine up into 2 partitions per hard drive. C,D, E and F. C and E are Maxtor HDD, and D, F the Seagate. Type norton ghost into www.google.com (http://www.google.com) and check out www.radified.com's (http://www.radified.com's) website for extensive info on using this tiny but powerful utility cheers, ~pawprint~
