I have just downloaded and installed The PCGuide CDROM (in the three separate downloads option). On the desktop My Briefcase now has the same icon as that of the shortcut to PC Webopaedia! - as does any newly created Briefcase. What has gone on and how do I get my "leather" briefcase back? it doesnt look so good in blue, yellow and black - well thats my opinion. http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/smile.gif

The other thing that has happened (coincidence?) is that my homepage was reset to a mysterious Russian Website LINK EDITED from my own setting of about:blank. I did recently click on a Russian Link by mistake; I had ZA running with high security and no alerts were received at the time. http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/frown.gif

Paul, first thing I would do is to give your system a good scan with an up-to-date virus program. I think the download of The PC Guide is just coincidence. I have also downloaded the three parts of The PC Guide without any of your symptoms. I think there is something else going on here.

PETE, can you delete the above active link??

In the meantime.. DO NOT CLICK THE LINK. It is a link and also has a FILE embedded into it.

As already suggested, get an up to date virus scan on the system.

gotta watch those type sites.. hehe.. will change your start page and install a dialer faster than you can blink!

Don't know about the briefcase icons. I got rid of my briefcase a long time ago, and replaced it with my own file structure. ZA wouldn't help you there because you have allowed (given permission) your browser to be open and connect to the net.. and you clicked and went to the site by choice (as far as ZA can tell)

Thanks folks. I've scanned everything (NAV updated today) and found no viruses - but I remain vigilant. The briefcase has returned to normal on its own after a recent reboot - LOL - and I never use it either.

I mostly only surf tech sites and got to Russia from a Microsoft Access Newsgroup! The offline PCGuide .pdf is really good and easy to use - and this is the coolest site on the web. I should have edited the link myself but had to go out and left it too late.

Take nice care of yourselves.

ps Are there any Browser settings etc. that can prevent such violations?

go here (http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com/default.htm?Page=productupdates), and get any security updates for your computer.
