Hi, I have a few questions about RAM. http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/wink.gif

I'm stuck with a measly 16MB of EDO RAM and I would like to upgrade it to whatever the limit my motherboard can handle.
My motherboard is an Intel 82340VX chipset type.

This is what the manual says about the specifications of the mobo: ( due to lack of knowledge I could'nt understand a bit of it )

Anyway:

System memory specifications:
~ 8mb to 128mb
~ A total of 4 72pin SIMM sockets and 2 168pin DIMM sockets

More memory specifications:
Four 72pin SIMM sockets
~ System memory is devided into 4 banks. Each bank has two 72pin SIMM slots.
~ Memory size from 8mb to 128mb Four 72-pin SIMM sockets

[B]Two 168-pin DIMM sockets[B]
~ System memory is devided into 2 banks. Each bank has one 168-pin DIMM slot.
~ Supports synchronouse DRAM(SDRAM) at 66MHz.
~ Memory size from 8mb to 64mb.

Now, question #1 is:
Is 168-pin SDRAM still being sold? or has it gone to a higher "pin number"? http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/rolleyes.gif
If it IS still being sold, is it being sold at 66Mhz?. or is that just the speed that my motherboard would make the RAM transmit at? I mean, if I went to the store and asked for 64mb of SDRAM(PCI133) would that 133 RAM speed work at only 66MHZ? would it work at all?

If so, should I put the 64mb in one slot? or 32 in each?

I know this question sounds very stupid to all of you who are computer literate, so if you don't want to answer it, thats ok.

Ignore the older SIMM standards, they're obsolete na ddownright expensive if you could still get them.

Yes, you can use PC133 SDRAM, yes it will default to the 66mhz speed of your Motherboard; and yes, standard SDRAM is still 168 pin ( DDR is 184 pin ).
To be honest it would be best to just buy the one 64 as they're around $10.

Hope this helps you out a little. http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/smile.gif And by the way, you cannot use both SIMM and DIMM at the same time; it's one or the other-and DIMM would be your best route.

Hello Enemy,
To go along with Iisbob, if your board needs CL3(just another wrench in the works) you may not be able to use PC100 or 133.
Go HERE (http://www.pcguide.com) and click on the link for "Crucial." They have a RAM finder service that will get you exactly what you need. http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/wink.gif
