Hi
I have an OAP friend who regularly manages to distort the windows desktop and is unable to restore it. It is usually stretched out and vertical and I have a hell of a job dragging it back to normal. Is there a command, routine,or program which would make this process simple without having the dexterity of a concert pianist? http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/wink.gif

should beable to right click tool bar and click properties to put it back the way you want if i'm reading you right, if not get a 2 by 4 and smack your friend up side the head a couple time that will fix it.(just kidding)

Thanks YODA74
didn't do quite what I wanted but got me experimenting.
If one stretches that narrow bar at the bottom of the screen to about one inch tall it is divided into 3 horizontal sections. (I never knew that) Then drag the BLANK SECTION up, left or right and the taskbar will go to the top, left or right of the desktop.(Yeh knew that.)
So I was able to advise my friend how to drag it down to lower part of the screen and then reduce the height thereby merging all three sections into one narrow taskbar.

What I was really looking for was a method of returning the desktop to a chosen default appearance without mouse dexterity.

Hello Henry,
Go to Start>Settings>control panel>Users. From there he can set up a prefered desktop. If the distorting happens again, he can simply relog on as that user and all is back to normal.
Hope that helps.

Guess which song is running through my head now???
"Henry the 8th" by Herman's Hermits:
I'm Henry the 8th, I am; Henry the 8th, I am, I am;
I got married to the widow next door;
She's been married 7 times before;
and every one was a Henry (Henry);
(She wouldn't tap a Willie or a Sam - No Sam);
I'm her 8th old man, I'm Henry.
Henry the 8th, I am.
Second verse, same as the first...
Thanks! Been awhile since I have heard it. http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/biggrin.gif

or...... you could go and get Beacon5 (http://www.bluebitter.de/) (now freeware)- and set it as you or he likes it, and then restrict it from being inadvertently(or on purpose) changed.. without using Beacon5 (which you can hide).
heh
I install this on many machines that I work on after (with customer approval) to keep things as they are, and so other users cannot change/mess everything up.
LoL - Kay, now you have planted that song in my head for the rest of the day!
