Our company network is just impossible to use. I need to move files around and something as simple as finding 5 PDF files, copying them to two different network folders, and then copying or changing the file name text... takes literally half an hour...

While Windows Exploder is open looking at a network folder, the window blinks/refreshes about every second. The pointer turns into an hour glass and briefly about once a second turns back into a pointer. When I click on a file to highlight it, try to navigate up, or into a folder, I have to wait like 20 seconds before the file highlights...or for folder contents to appear, or for anything to happen...

Copying files seems to go as expected, a 40MB file may take about 10 seconds to write.

I think it's the Trend Micro virus running, but I cannot tell...

Good grief!

It can be anything slowing the PC.
First clean up all the stuff on the drive you can, then do a defrag.
If it is asking to do an update for Adobe Reader, let it get it over with.

Any AV can do that. If it's configured to scan everything, anytime it's accessed/moved/etc it can do exactly what you are describing.

Sometimes, I've found it easier to copy the path to the file you want...a new text file copy and paste, quit Explorer. Open Explorer, paste in the path to the file and go directly there...that way you will only get hit once, not each level of directories you go through.

Other things that can cause this...badly fragmented storage drives; other processes running (incremental backups); poorly configured sharing; too small a network 'pipe'...any combination of those and about a million other things...
