Hi all,
I need to modify my BIOS messages.
Is it possible to write some BIOS routines so that I can get messages like
"Good Morning" when I boot up my PC.
How to do it?
Are there any sites or documents that gives details about this?

Hi there. Not sure about any program that will let you alter the bios that way, but if you want to display messages during boot-up, just go to your autoexec.bat file, and put your message in there. Depending on what OS you have, you can use msconfig or sysedit to alter your autoexec.bat file. The message shouldn't interfere with the boot-up, but will add a small delay while the computer tries to figure out what it means. You should get an error "bad command or file name" right after your message. Have fun.

An even simpliar way ( and less dangerous ) would be to edit your logo.sys file ( it's actually a bitmap picture, the Windows 98 welcome screen you see on boot ) and place your own picture in ther witrh what ever you want, just be aware it has to be a specific size and only in 256 colors.

Thanks for all the replies.
I am not talking about modifying AUTOEXEC.BAT.
The messages that come before DMi POOL configuration check.
That is while doing POST(power on self test).

Hi
If you are talking about modifying the POST program, you would need to know assembly language. I doubt if you would find much on the net about it, if anything at all, as what you would need to know just to have your computer flash 'good morning' or whatever would be more trouble than it's worth. The best sites I guess would be the hacking sites, but at the risk of sounding paranoid, I know for sure your IP would be logged if you are searching these sites frequently.

I seem to remember some motherboard manufacturer that provided a flash utility for sytem builders to provide their own graphic instead of the "Energy Star" logo, but I don't remember which one.

It was Intel (http://developer.intel.com/design/motherbd/gen_indx.htm) I was thinking of, for Intel mother boards.

HI,
When you boot a DELL/HP/COMPAQ or any branded system,
you will get the company logo at the time of POST.
How do they do that?
I can write assembly level programs, but I dont have an idea about
BIOS programs.
Some assemblers even change the CPU speed which is displayed at the
beginning. If it is a 700MHz... they change it to 900MHz

Or,
You could also record your own "Goooood Morning!" and use it to open things up when you log on. Or, "Oh, It's you again!" If I remember correctly, the info to do so is in Sounds and Multimedia Properties (WinMe)...you can pick an event and assign a sound...one that you've created.

If you have an Award BIOS, Atif at VNRoundup.com (http://www.vnroundup.com/index.php?item=articles/bios) has a link to the answer.
