Hey gang!

I just installed 2 60 mm case fans and one 80 mm case fans into my Acer case. I have an Athlon 1600+ XP CPU and I want to keep it and everything else in my system nice and cool. I also have a Volcano heatsink/fan combo on my CPU.

My question is, the fans are fairly loud and my computer is in my livingroom. Aside from shutting down everytime my wife and I want to watch TV, is there something else I can do to quiet the fans down when I'm not using the computer?

I tried going into Settings/Active Desktop/Customize my desktop and tinkering with the system standby and turn off hard disk controls but it doesn't wind the fans down any.

It's just that I like to keep the computer on all day and shut it down at night. I don't want to turn the thing off and on 10 times a day because I don't think that's good for it.

Ideas??

Could try putting the fans on a fan bus with switches to turn the extra fans off when you dont need the extra cooling (don't put the CPU HSF or PSU fan on this bus)

Kayden,
I had the same problem. I installed a toggle switch through front panel. Just splice switch leg (wire) between power source and fan. You only switch one of the wires. The fans run on 12 volts (yellow wire). Splice/install switch on that wire. A suitable switch can be had at an electrical or automotive supply house. Get one that inserts through a 3/8" hole (which you will drill through case front).
