Hi.
My new Android 2.3 tablet is here, but I can't install anything.
This tablet appears to be rooted, as there is a terminal and a superuser icon in the settings.
There is a filemanager, but I cannot run any .apk files to install the applicaitons.
I looked around on the net, and on YT, but all the tutorials there use a WiFi connection to download a certain kind of filemanager which will let you run .apk files.
Problem is - I don't have a WiFi connection to play with, so that option is out.
Anyone got any ideas?

You need a WiFi connection to use the Android Market and Internet of course.
Google APK Installer apk, download it to your desktop, copy it to your tablet via USB. In the Settings/Applications in your tablet, enable 3rd party applications.

I have several .apk files(including angry birds), but there is no obvious way to actually RUN those files to begin the install. The tablet knows they are there, and I can find them easy enough, but there is no way to actually run them. I have tried the usual touch-and-hold to see if another menu comes up(it doesn't), or the more Windoze double-tap to see if I can run them, but no luck. :(
Seems the tablet knows they are there, knows they are .apk files - it even gives me a cute little android-inside-an-envelope icon, so it knows they are installation files, but there is no way to actually RUN them.
I will keep looking around, but it would be right royal pain if I have to setup a wireless network just so I can install ONE app that will let me install other apk files.
I'll keep you posted.

Much the easiest way to download and install apps is via the MarketPlace - a complete doddle in my experience. If you are not in range of a WiFi Access point you might like to consider installing a WiFi Card in a PC with a wired connection and then install Connectify to turn it into a WiFi "hot spot".
I can't imagine having a Tablet without internet connectivity but everyone to their own. Maybe How To Install APK Applications on Your Google Android Phone (http://www.talkandroid.com/guides/beginner/install-apk-files-on-android/) will give a couple of pointers.

Just a little update for you all - I downloaded and installed the latest firmware for the tablet(Android 4.0), and it comes with an AppInstaller - navigate to the .apk file, and select install - easy peasy, and very painless.
Android 4 is quite cute too - I think this version of Android is specifically aimed at tablets over smart-phones...
