I need to format a PC. It's a clone. but when I go to boot up I get Floppy disk(s) fail (40) The F1 key takes me in to windows. It shows I have A:floppy and B:floppy. The mother board is set for the A: floppy and B: is NONE.
The boot seq.is set A: C: I want to format so I can reinstall win98. But It wont boot to the boot disk. If anyone can help please do.
Check that the cable is securely connected and that the stripe matches pin one on the connectores (motherboard and drive), also, if you are not using the second floppy disable it in BIOS.....if that doesn't help replace the cable.

Also check the power connector as well. Had the same problem recently. Some how it worked its way lose.If both ribbon and power cable are properly attached it may be time for a new FDD.

I would like to thank everyone who replyed to my post. I found the trouble. It was a bad data cable to the A: drive. This is the best place to get PC help.
