View Full Version : corrupted files
Hi All!
I've been told by my ISP that I have corrupted DIAL-UP Adapter and or TCP/IP files and should be replaced. They Should be found on the OS CD How do I find them, and which do I use W98 or ME upgrade disc. I know how to add and remove them if I can find them.
Thanks,
kfh.
You should use the disk for the operating system you are running.
The files are on that cd.
When you remove the TCP/IP protocol and dial-up networking adapter
Then reboot and Reinstall the protocol and dial-up networking adapter it will replace the files
Asking you to put the disk in for your O/S unless you have the cab files copied to your hard drive and you installed from there.

Hi Rick,
I've tried always to find these files.
When I remove and reboot then add I am not getting the promt. When I insert either CD I get the message these file cannot be found at this destination. Is there anywhere I can download these files.
Thanks,
kfh.

It may be that these files are stored in a compressed format in which case you can't just copy them directly to your systems corresponding location. Try using the MS utility "expand.EXE" which is located on your media in "I386".
In order to replace a file where your media is in a CD-ROM drive D: you could use the following syntax:
"D:I386expand D:I386name_C:name"
This method is recommended for DLL files but many other Windows systems files can be replaced using this method.
Hope this works - if not hang on, somebody else is bound to come up with a proper solution.
