Hello tb29,
Welcome to PC Guide Forums!
AOL has an uninstall feature. You will want to use the Uninstall rather than just dumping a folder that says AOL.
On your DESKTOP double click MY COMPUTER and then double click CONTROL PANEL. Double click on ADD/REMOVE PROGRAMS and look for AOL.
Should get rid of it...if it says that you must manually install anything post back and someone will help you to get ride of any residual stuff.

tb29, you still having the problem?
getting rid of Aol can be a lot of trouble becouse it is so intrusive,
trying to wipe it completely would mean you would probobly end up Re-Formating your hard drive. mostly what is left after you use the add/remove
program are HTML files for connecting you to various programs offered by Aol,they should be on the C\Drive subdirectories if your going to delete these backup, backup, backup. just in case and usually anything with a .Tmp
is fair game.be real careful what you delete.

Hi there tb
If you are comfortable about going into the registry I would suggest that you search here and the delete any reference to AOL. BUT Remember! BACK UP your registry before you do any thing. After I un-installed AOL I found numerous references left in the registry. I did the following.
Full reg backup. (store it where it can easily be found - folder on desktop for example) Then type AOL in the find box then click search.
Every time a reference is found export it individually to a folder on your desktop, then continue the search again. (bit of overkill but this way you can re-insert individual in reverse)
But remember, if you are not sure about doing this do-not do it as it can completely jigger your computer.

Even for those of us who are experianced in using/editing the registry still cringe when performing surgery. So i like to use this excellant program; Regcleaner (http://www.jv16.org) it is one of the safest and most powerful tools i've found-of course you should still do a backup of your registry before doing anything to it-but this tool makes it so much easier and safer.
