View Full Version : System problems :(
One of my computers recently started acting up. The problem I am having is that when my computer tries to boot up completely, I get a message saying that sirc32.exe is missing and it ask me to locate it. Has this file corrupted in some way? How do I get this file to fix it. System is running on Windows 98. It will not let me bypass it. Need help.

sounds like you got yourself a virus.not sure but?Run acheck if you havent already do it a couple of times. Also do a file search for that file if you haven't already. If it is a V it would be the W32.sircam most likley
if that is the case then go here http://www.symantec.com/avcenter/venc/data/w32.sircam.worm@mm.removal.tool.html

I use McAfee but can't get anywhere to run a check. Is there another way?

try ,re-start the computer, during re-start hold down the Ctrl key until windows start-up menu appears, choose safe mode and press enter. you should be in safe mode and you can proceed from there. but wait for some other opinions here i could be wrong.

If you are not successful with Symentec's removal procedures, please check out Trend Micro http://housecall.antivirus.com/housecall/start_corp.asp, they provide a free house call service, will scan your computer for virus and also provide removal information. Through them, I had the SirCam virus removed from my computer successfully in July.

If SirCam has gone this far with your system (as you posted) it's time to get out the trusty Boot Disk and Win98 CD.
Re-install O/S.
Luck.

I agree with ranchdog, Sircam is a pretty nasty one, and once it starts causing trouble usually the best way to clean it up is to format and reinstall. Even after running the removal tool we've seen problems still coming back to haunt people.
It's not often I recommend a reinstall, in fact I usually recommend against it, but this is one instance that it's probably the best idea.
Be SURE you use a clean boot disk.
