screen flickers and blacks out

My computer screen flickers and blacks out whether I am on the web surfing or not . I am not sure what to do . It is a older comp but my budget will not let me replace it .Any advice out there will be much apprecitated!It comes and gos. Which makes it very annoying! THANK YOU

Sounds like a bad solder joint in your monitor. Try giving it a tap (or thump even - but don't jolt the computer) to see whether it brings the picture back. In that case, you'll have to get it repaired.

It might be your video lead. Try flexing it near the connectors. If that brings up the picture, get a new lead fitted.

It could be the video card. Try the monitor on another machine, if you can, to eliminate the card.

Trying the monitor on another machine won't necessarily rule out the card, it will rule out the monitor. Try another monitor on the problem machine also. That will test both.
