View Full Version : Upgrade problems
I was attempting to upgrade a old pc from windows 95 to windows 98 se and it froze at around 25 percent. I tried to reboot and continue installation, but now I am unable to install 98 and now 95 is not responding. How should I fix this? Is there a way to go back to 95 or do I have to get 98 now? Need help.

Hi Diz,
I guess this means you don't have a full install 98 disk. Do you have a 95 disk?
Can you get to a DOS prompt? Hold F8 during startup, select "Start from DOS Prompt" from the menu.

No 95 disk, just 98. What do I do when I get the dos prompt?

If you can get to the dos prompt with cd-rom support.
You have two options.
1st try to run setup again from the windows folder.
Just type “cd\windows” and then “setup” without the quotes “
it should restart the setup or resume from a point where it crashed.
The second is restart from the cd.
Just change to your cd rom drive letter.
Then change directory to win98 “cd\win98" tap enter
then run setup again.
It should restart the setup again for resume from where it crashed
IF you are using a win98 upgrade try the first solution .
It (upgrade) must find a previous version on the system somewhere.

I think U have got the solution for ur problem, if not i will suggest u that firstly U must "RENAME/DELETE" (better rename) the file "WIN.COM" in the "C:\WINDOWS" directory, then run the WIN'98 setup from CD-ROM.

Thanx & Regards.
