While on the internet and viewing web pages with thumbs all I get most of the time is a Box with a little x in the middle where the thumb is usually. How do I get the thumb? Using IE 6 Xp home, Compaq 5330us pc

Hello TommyY,

Welcome to the PC Guide Forums!

One distinct possibility, since you it appears from your post that you are getting thumbs once and a while, is that it is not on your end. Rather, if someone messes up on the HTML source code (you see this often on the auction sites) then no image will appear and you will get the thumb with the X in the box.

Others may know if there is a Internet Setting or something in XP that is keeping you from viewing the images.

Hey, im having the same problem using IE 6 with windows 98 se on a compaq 7478. It's kind of wierd. It only happens sometimes...very intermittant. I never had this problem until I "upgraded" to IE 6.

A little research turned up this item:

Having a problem with GIF and/or JPG thumbnails not being generated when using Windows Explorer to view directories as a web page? Typically, this is caused by installing something that set the .jpg (or GIF) file association but removed the pointer which links to the 'CLSID' for the thumbnail view. This problems can usually be easily fixed, by simply typing the following into the Run dialog on the Start Menu:

Sorry, decided to delete the registry altering information until I'm sure that this is the proper direction for this problem

It appears from the more research I do in this area that problems with the thumbs displaying could indeed be a result of differing codes being used and the individual computer setups of IE.

Hopefully someone will jump in and provide "the" answer! http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/biggrin.gif

One more problem i'm having, is that some pop-up windows are blank. Are you having that problem too TommyY? I'm trying to figure out if its a related problem or just another bug.

It's unbelievable how many different problems people are having with IE 6 http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/mad.gif
