Hi,
Does anyone know if there is a program that configures your IRQ settings and COM settings to work with your peripherals? I am having a problem where my Network Card and Sound card are using the same interrupt Request (IRQ 9) and i have run out of IRQs the only free one is IRQ 5 which i cant make my modem use... (my modem uses IRQ 10) what i want to do is bring the modem to IRQ 5 and use my network card on IRQ 10...CAN ANYONE help? thanks for your time...

I'd say remove the sound card from Device Manager in Safe Mode, shut down and remove it from the board. (While in Safe Mode remove ALL sound cards listed, any others are old ones that are unnecessary and could be the reason the existing one isn't on IRQ 5 now.)
Then install the network card, which will take IRQ 9, after rebooting and getting it working, or at least installed correctly, reinstall the sound card, and it will probably take IRQ 5, which most sound cards tend to prefer anyway. If the network card is already installed, just reboot and check to see that it is working, then shut down and re-add the sound card.

See if you can find a manual for the sound card, it will tell you if there's a jumper you have to set to make it take another IRQ. You might be able to force it to take another IRQ if you know how to use Device Manager.
Open Device Manager, click the plus beside Sound, video and game controllers Highlight your sound card and click Properties Click the Resources tab.
Look for a line that says Use Automatic Settings. UNCHECK the box beside this line. Click the Change Settings button below. Now you can choose the IRQ you want the sound card to take. You'll have to reboot to make the changes effective, and the sound card has to be installed for it to work.
I would try to get a manual and check it for jumper settings first, change IRQ's in Device Manager only if you can't get the info you need.
Check my site, and look for the driver links. Windrivers usually has pages listed for each manufacturer that point to their drivers, main page, tech support, and FTP sites. Often they have links for manuals too. Trish's Escape from Hardware Hell might have some good links too.
