a week or so ago, my wife's computer crashed. (mouse wouldn't move,control-alt-delete wouldn't work)i hit reset and it booted up fine. i connected to the internet and it did the same thing. hit reset this time and didn't get anything on the screen. hit reset again and didn't get any harddrive lights or a: drive lights. still nothing on the screen. i powered the computer off and then on again. same problem still. i am new to computer problems so humor me. here is what i have done so far. checked the connections...ok checked the monitor...ok. disconnected all drives and the ram from the motherboard. still nothing on the screen, no beeps, the cpu fan is running and so is the power supply fan. i don't know alot about the specific computer but it is a no-name brand with all the cards as part of the motherboard. it is an amd in the 400mhz range. what next? thanks in advance for the help.

I think you've done all the right things. Seems narrowed down to the CPU or the motherboard. Could still be a power supply fault but not very likely. I would try the CPU in your working machine, if possible. Don't attempt this unless you know exactly what you're doing!
My guess is it's the motherboard. Not much you can do with that except replace it.

If you get no beeps with the RAM in place, and in the correct slot, it usually means bad motherboard or CMOS chip. IN both cases, replacing the motherboard is about the only cure.
Power supply not producing the proper voltage is also a possibility. If you're not really good with computers, take it to a shop and have them check the voltage coming from the power supply. If this is not it, and you get no beeps with known good memory and CPU installed, I'd say it's a bad motherboard. The memory can be tested on another machine.

If you had everything...Where would you put it?
