I have an old Intel Genuine Pentium 120mhz with 32MB of ram, 1gig hard drive, D-Link 538 nic. I would like to make it into a router for my small home network. How can I get started?

With all the hardware and software you need, you might as well buy a router. For a small network you need at least 3 NIC cards ($20 each, US (rounding up)) and WinRoute program ($30, US). That makes about $90. For about $10 more you could buy a router.

Actually the nics are all you really need...there are a number of Linux projects downloadable for free that are specifically designed for running a firewall/router...the system you mention is actually overkill (they can run on 8mb ram with a 386 and nothing but a floppy drive)
Do a search for Linux router project...plus, you can get NICs online way cheaper than $20...it is a worthwhile project if you're interested in tinkering...
