Hello,

I have an Asus P5A mainboard, with a K6-2 300mhz cpu. This system has run perfectly for the last 1.5 year. I recently upgraded to a Duron system, and put my new Duron cpu+mainboard in my "old" ATX case.
But now I decided to buy a new case, so I can still use my Amd K6-2 300(that has been sitting there since I got the Duron), as a backup system.
Problem is, after I had installed my old K6-2 300 + mainboard in the new case, I didn't get anything on my screen. The systeem doesn't even give error beeps!
I replaced about everything (cpu, ram, videocard, harddrive), but it still doesn't work..............

Please help...

First thing to check for is a ground problem. Remove everything including the power supply, and set it up on a table, unless the power cables will reach if the motherboard is out of the case. This places it in a location where it cannot touch any metal. Hook it up and power on with only motherboard, CPU, memory, video card and keyboard. If you get one beep and a picture, you have a ground problem. Computer shops have cardboard washers to solve it. They go between the motherboard and the chassis of the case.

If that doesn't do it, get back to us. Could be bad power supply, switch, power cables plugged in wrong, bad CPU, bad memory, etc.

No, that didn't help.................
There has to be some other problem. (Not due to CPU, Memory or Videocard, because I replaced those)
Any other ideas?

My first idea would be try another power supply. Make sure all cables are connected correctly, test CPU, memory and video card in another working computer, if you haven't already done that...

No beeps usually means either bad motherboard, CMOS chip or power supply.

Yup, already done that.
Anyways, when I put my Networkcard(LAN) in my P5A motherboard, then the light on the back of the card starts flashing. This means the mainboard is getting power, right?
Well, I'm affraid the mainboard is trashed then.
O, something else, my mainboard has been lying around in a closet for a few weeks. Could that have done anything to it?? Cause it still worked when I put it there..........

Storing it in the closet probably wouldn't do any damage, but if you walked through the house on lots of carpet then picked up the board without grounding yourself and discharging any static electricity, that would definitely do some damage. As little as 100 volts or less will damage computer components, while it takes 2000 volts for you to feel it when you touch a door knob...
