I get an "HDD controller failure" message when trying to
boot and computer won't boot.Does this mean hard drive type
in BIOS needs to be changed??

Could be several things.
BIOS drive type, as you asked,
Bad hard drive.
Bad IDE controller.
Drive not partitioned and set as active.
Drive not properly jumpered as Master or Slave, whichever is appropriate.
Ribbon cable not connected.
I would suspect a bad controller or cable, since that's what the error refers to.

If you had everything...Where would you put it?
