I recently had an ADSL connection installed and it works fine except that every time I switch my PC on I have to do the following:

Open the "run" menu and type winipcfg.
Choose the right card
Click "Release all"
Click "Renew all"
Click "OK"

The connection stays as long as I use it, but if I switch off I always have to do this again or the PPP Adapter is chosen in place of the ADSL card.

How can I make the settings stay? Do I have to remove the old modem from inside the PC?

You shouldnt have to remove it., Just disable it.

Start > Settings > Control Panel > System... > Click the Device Manager tab > Click the + next to the phrase "Network Adapters" > Then choose your modem, then click properties, then check the box that says "Disable in this Hardware Profile", then click ok, you might be asked to reboot... you should be set

good luck

The reply given by d03boy seems to work! At least, my first experience suggests that. Thank you! Incidentally, this was the first usable reply from three continents.
