A few weeks ago (before I bought Norton AntiVirus http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/frown.gif), I got hit by a variant of the Love Bug virus which deleted every one of my jpegs.
However, since that infection, I notice that my folders do not keep the preferences I set. F'rinstance, I like to view my files in the "List" format, but now I have to set that option every dang time I go into my folders.
Could this be related to that virus?
How can I fix this annoyance?
Thx in advance.

Sorry if stupid question (never had a virus, so don't know about eradicating), but did you check Start..Settings..Folder Options..View tab.. to see if "Remember each folders view settings" is still checked? I have to reset each new folder I make to List..default apparently Icons..but 98 "remembers" after that.

Thanks for responding, kayofcircles!
Don't worry about stupid questions, because I hadn't thought to check that setting until you mentioned it. I'm a relative neophyte.
Anyway, that option is indeed still checked. But 98 is still not "remembering."
This issue may not be directly related to the virus, but that is precisely when my folder settings got amnesia...

Okay, went and looked through MSKB..no luck there unless you have Web View enabled, or just tried to change to NT. Did a Google search..no one seems to have this problem, but found a book for sale (for the blind interestingly enough) that had this in the Table of Contents:
"USE THE SAME FOLDER VIEW FOR EACH WINDOW.
Turn off "View as Web Page".
View as "List" or "Details".
View "Like Current Folder".
Turn Off "Remember Each Folder's View Settings"."
which almost implies that I was wrong about that setting. Works for me, but I use the Classic Desktop stuff, so not sure. Didn't find anything helpful, but brought you some 98 useful links: 98 Tips (http://www.windows-help.net/windows98/all-tips.shtml), Windows annoyances (http://www.annoyances.org/), and a comparison thingy for Classic vs Web settings (http://www.slmseniors.com/library/win98g.htm). Hopefully, someone will come along who knows more than I do.

kayofcircles, you are the person of the hour!
The fix you outlined worked. Allow me to thank you for your assistance with this. Thanks also for the links! Wow, but you're helpful!
I guess I didn't do enough research before posting my question. My bad.

you've prompted me into tackling yet another little annoyance that I've been putting up with. I like different options in my folders, but eveytime I set them, windows forgets (or deliberately changes them to the opposite of what I've set)
Anyway I've just reset them and at the moment their working fine, thanks folks.! http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/biggrin.gif
